MANJULA ASTHANA MAHANTI

Shelter

Willing to write something,
Badly perplexed,
Which thought,
What should I write!
Write about a bird,
Hurt her wings, trying to fly,
Again, and again, fails,
Searching for shelter,
Looks desperate,
Or, I write about a dog,
Left leg crushed by a car,
Horrified, unable to walk,
Looking painfully for help
Who will deliver kindness
Or, should I choose, the woman,
Brutally beaten, thrown out,
By her own husband,
Bleeding, insulted, tortured,
Yet, crawling towards the same door,
To knock for the shelter,
Innumerable subjects,
Have stories of pain, agony,
Wish to survival motivates
To withstand every adverse situation,
Really difficult to portray their striving!

Law Of Nature

Forests are fascinating always
Huge trees, greenery, long shadows,
Melodious chirping of different birds,
Zigzag paths, amusing smell
But fear, at the back of mind,
If lion or tiger comes.
A wave of horror, passed through,
So, what, we are safe,
Animals kill animals only,
For their food, their survival,
It's, not easy but
They soon, smell the danger
Run or hide, to save their lives,
Animals have tough time to catch prey,
Animals too, love their lives
Make every possible effort to save
Their existence,
Yet fall victim of prey, save other animal's life.
One is killed for other's survival.
Strange law of nature....

Poverty

Whenever I see, mangy old, pulling weight
Or any skeletal like labour, breaking stones
That,they are humiliated openly
Those poor fuze own bodies
For the existence of the same bodies ,
They work empty stomach,
No water, nothing to eat,
Yet, blamed for working slowly,
Or, incapable of skills,
Poor people, can't imagine of
Some rest or relief.
Their mud houses have
Hunger, disease and poverty,
How can they have any other thought but survival
Helplessness,
Necessities
Longing to survive....
